If you've used the Sample Offset parameter in Ableton Live's Clip Envelopes before, you'll be familiar with this concept.Ī virtual 'spinback' is made possible by creating a steep slope that takes the virtual stylus to two bars earlier over the space of a single beat. Any deviation from the top will result in the virtual record needle moving to some point into the past. With this engaged, the Envelope Mapping Panel's vertical axis represents time, with real-time at the top of the grid, and two bars earlier at the bottom. This isn't a particularly sophisticated effect, but it comes into its own when combined with Gross Beat's Time manipulation mode. Using the Volume mode of the Envelope Mapping Panel, you can emulate a DJ's use of a crossfader to create rapid on-off stutters and swift fades. However, it is possible to change the snap resolution or turn it off entirely, and also select a variety of shapes, including various curves with definable gradients.

perfect for beat matched frequency-rising repeats for some buildup.Points are created on the display by right-clicking the panel, and by default these snap to eighth-notes and jump from one value to another, rather than ramping smoothly.

if i put it up, it gets enabled and the further i put it up, the smaller the grid gets. I personally have it mapped both to a fader, so if the fader is down, beat repeat is turned off. Works all beatmatched, and you have the option to have no triplets to just change the loop size by /2 and *2. map a knob to "grid", and slowly turn it to the left to reduce the loop size.

with the button, you turn chance to 100%, and it loops nicely beat matched. Put a beat repeat, turn "chance" to zero, map it to a button. Unless I am missing something and not using them correctly - which is probably likely and why I have come on here looking for help!Īny tips on how to use beatrepeat or looper in ableton to get what i described above? I guess what im really after is the way the roll effect on the djm-800 will automatically start the repeat at the correct place and catch the beat right everytime, and then just 1 simple parameter to change the length of the repeat in increments.Īll of the other loopers/beatrepeats etc I have tried do lots and lots of very clever things in a very complicated way, but are unable to achieve the simple beatmatched looping and ability to easily change the grid that the djm800 roll effect can. Beatrepeat and looper dont quite achieve what i want.
